Puppy Farming
Although there are laws in place stating that breeders producing more than five litters a year must be inspected and obtain a licence, puppy farming still goes on.
In puppy farms, a few chosen bitches are kept in poor conditions and have a life that consists of being pregnant and giving birth. The puppies, when they are born, are kept in cramped conditions and are taken away from their mothers far too early. In the period between the birth and the selling of the puppies, both the puppies and the mother are generally fed an inadequate diet and kept in poor conditions.
The puppies have no veterinary care and, as such, disease in puppy farms is rife. Defects in puppies are ignored and very often a puppy will not survive long after it is sold.
There is a simple way to put a stop to puppy farms - do not purchase a puppy unless you can see both parents and the conditions in which it has been kept. Satisfy yourself that the puppy was not produced illegally or immorally.
Breeders (or, people who call themselves breeders) who run puppy farms do it purely for monetary gain, nothing else. If you stop buying, they will stop breeding!
We at breedyourdog.com are against puppy farming. We encourage breeders to abide by the guidelines set out by the Kennel Club.
