Basenji - breed information
Character and temperament:
Basenji's do not bark, however, they will yodel, howl, growl or crow depending on the mood they are in. They are excellent hunting dogs. They are a good family pet and are curious about the world around them, basenji's love to explore and play with the world they live in but have a tendancy to chew so allowing them their own toy is a good idea. They have a strong pack sense and are intelligent with a great desire to please so training can be very rewarding to both dog and owner.
Origin:
The dogs drawn on the walls of the pyramids in ancient Egypt are believed to be the basenji. They were bred as companions for the Pharoahs.
General description:
Distinctive tighly curled tail. Wedged face and wrinkled forehead. They can be red, black or tri-coloured.

Basenji's are a very athletic breed and require long daily walking to prevent them from becoming overweight and lazy. Thay have a lot of playful energy.
Grooming:
Basenjis are very clean dogs, they will clean themselves, so brushing once a week is plenty.
